The Acupressure mat is a daily self-care tool used by professionals, from Olympic athletes to world-class Yogis, to help relieve anxiety, stress, insomnia, lack of energy, circulation problems, chronic pain, back ache, migraines or tension headaches. It also helps aid muscle recovery, reducing inflammation and muscle aches whilst improving blood flow so your muscles get the nutrients they need to recover and grow. This mat works by applying pressure to various skin and muscle points on the body which trigger the release of endorphins and oxytocin, the 'happy' hormones known for stress and pain-relieving, helping to release tension and help you relax. It also increases blood flow, improving your blood and lymph circulation.
To use your mat, place it on a flat surface (a bed or the floor are the most commonly used) and lie on your back on the mat - wear a light t-shirt on your first few tries whilst you adjust to the sensation. The first minute or so can feel uncomfortable and prickly, then your skin will start to feel warm and almost 'sunburnt'. After around five minutes a tingly sensation will begin, and full body restoration will start to take over. It usually takes five to twenty minutes for most people to start to relax and fully feel the tension easing; some people even fall asleep. Each time you use the mat the discomfort will ease slightly and the relaxation will begin more quickly. Over time, you can pick areas of your body you wish to target and place them on the mat - often the areas that hurt the most will benefit the most from this mat, as the discomfort can be a reflection of the tension stored in the area.
